Shorelines, riverbanks, drainage channels, and hydraulic structures face constant exposure to wave action, scour, tidal forces, and high-velocity flows that cause progressive erosion and structural degradation. Traditional protection methods — quarried rock armour, cast-in-place concrete — are costly, carbon-intensive, and often impractical in remote or ecologically sensitive locations. TechFab’s hydraulic engineering solutions deliver advanced, flexible geosynthetic systems that protect critical infrastructure against erosive forces, engineered for performance, sustainability, and site adaptability across coastal, riverine, and stormwater challenges.

Hydraulic protection systems are engineered geosynthetic solutions designed to resist erosion, scour, and hydrodynamic forces on exposed surfaces — including shorelines, riverbanks, drainage channels, and hydraulic structures. These systems maintain structural integrity under sustained hydraulic loading while conforming to site-specific topography and demanding service environments.
Unlike conventional protection methods — quarried rock armour, cast-in-place concrete lining, or rigid masonry — TechFab’s geosynthetic systems are flexible, lightweight, and deployable without on-site batching or heavy construction plant, making them well-suited to remote and environmentally sensitive locations.
TechFab delivers a focused portfolio of hydraulic engineering solutions: TechTube® Geotextile Tube Systems for shoreline protection and land reclamation; TechMat® Fabric Form Grout Mattress for channel lining and riverbank protection; and TechRock™ Bio-Engineered Composite Geotextile for nature-integrated coastal protection.
01

Resists wave action, tidal scour, and long-shore drift that progressively erode coastal landmass and destabilise nearshore infrastructure, using TechTube® and TechRock® systems as flexible, sustainable alternatives to conventional hard armouring.
02

Addresses hydraulic shear stress, fluctuating water levels, wave wash, and scour undermining at the bank toe using TechMat® Fabric Form Grout Mattress, which conforms closely to irregular bank profiles.
03

Resists hydraulic abrasion, maintains hydraulic efficiency, and prevents seepage losses in drainage channels and hydraulic conveyance structures using continuous, hydraulically smooth TechMat® lining.
04

Withstands wave action, tidal currents, and marine exposure while providing a contained structural boundary for hydraulic fill placement using TechTube® Geotextile Tube Systems.
TechTube® Geotextile Tube Systems
Large-diameter woven geotextile tubes hydraulically filled with locally available sand or dredged material, used for shoreline protection, breakwaters, and land reclamation.
Function
Hydraulically filled containment for mass-stable structures
Typical Use
Coastal revetments, shoreline stabilisation, land reclamation dykes, tidal containment bunds
TechMat® Concrete Grout Mattress
Fabric-formed concrete system that cures in place as a monolithic, conforming protective layer — available in Filter Point, Uniform Section, and Articulated Block variants.
Function
Monolithic conforming concrete lining, no formwork
Typical Use
Channels, riverbanks, hydraulic aprons, bridge abutments, weir toes
TechRock™ Bio-Engineered Composite Geotextile
High-strength composite geotextile that replaces rock armour, entraps sediment naturally, and supports ecological colonisation, delivering 3x service life over standard uncovered geosynthetics.
Function
Sediment-entrapping bio-engineered surface layer
Typical Use
Ecologically sensitive coastal and riverine slope protection
Hydraulic engineering solutions protect shorelines, riverbanks, channels, and hydraulic structures from erosion caused by wave action, scour, tidal forces, and high-velocity flows. They are needed wherever water threatens the stability of infrastructure or land — coastal revetments, river training works, irrigation channel lining, flood embankments, and land reclamation sites.
TechFab offers three primary systems: TechTube® Geotextile Tube Systems for shoreline protection and land reclamation, TechMat® Concrete Grout Mattress for channels and riverbanks, and TechRock™ Bio-Engineered Composite Geotextile for nature-integrated coastal protection. The three systems can be used independently or in combination.
TechFab systems are flexible and ground-conforming, require no batching, formwork, or curing downtime (programme savings of 40–60%), have a lower carbon footprint, and TechRock™ offers bio-engineering potential that integrates naturally with the environment over time.
A high-strength woven geotextile tube is placed in position and hydraulically filled with a slurry of locally available sand, dredge spoil, or in-situ soil. As fill pumps in, water drains through the permeable fabric, leaving a dense, stable fill body that resists wave forces and tidal displacement — with no quarried rock required.
Filter Point Mattress relieves pore pressure on slopes and berms; Uniform Section Mattress is fully sealed for canal lining requiring impermeability; Articulated Block Mattress offers maximum mass for bridge abutment aprons and scour-prone zones. Projects often combine all three.
TechRock™’s sand-entrapped surface layer traps additional sediment carried by currents and waves. As sediment accumulates, biofilms form and vegetation colonises the surface, creating a growing natural protective layer. Carbon footprint is approximately 50% lower than conventional rock armour, with 3x the service life of standard uncovered geosynthetics.
Programme savings of 40–60% are typically achievable — TechMat® eliminates formwork and curing time, TechTube® eliminates the rock supply chain from quarry to site, and TechRock™ deploys by unrolling and securing fabric with no heavy plant required.
TechFab provides end-to-end support: hydraulic and geotechnical assessment for system selection, product configuration and sizing, design guidance and technical submittals, installation supervision, and post-construction performance monitoring.
