Home / Success Stories / Improvement of 4 Lane Divided Highway from Km 63 to Km 120 of NH-11, Bharatpur Mahua Section of Agra Jaipur Road in Rajasthan
Rajasthan, India | National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)
NH-11 of Bharatpur Mahua section is subjected to heavy traffic & heavy monsoon rains. As a result, existing pavement was cracking.
Due to the heavy traffic load on NH 11, the existing pavement was frequently subjected to Fatigue and cracking. During monsoon season, water use to penetrate inside and deteriorate the pavement, which further propagated the cracks. The depth of the crack was around 5mm and was continuous, which lead to regular maintenance, incurring large amount of direct and indirect cost.
Considering the magnitude and frequent maintenance happening of this stretch of NH, decided to find a long term solution. The issue here is not only water infiltration, but it also needs stress absorption. Suggested product, Techglass AIC will provide dual functions, one is moisture barrier and another is SAMI (Stress Absorbing Membrane Interlayer). The solution suggested was laying of Techglass AIC, as the depth of crack, which were developed was around 5mm. This would work as a reinforcing effect of the low strain glass fiber strands to the asphalt system in combination with the moisture barrier. Basic care has been taken by providing crack sealant with leveling course wherever required, before placement of AIC. AIC was placed in taut condition with tack coat to bond with the overlay.
