Aamby Valley City is a township developed by the Sahara India Pariwar in Pune district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is about 23 km from Lonavala, 87 km from the city of Pune and 120 km from the city Mumbai. Our client bunglow is also situated in this hilly terrain. This region receives high amount of rainfall during the monsoon. Since the terrain is hilly and because of the high rainfall, the slopes are highly unstable in this whole region. The native soil is lateritic and basaltic origin which behaves as hard rock during summer and start losing cohesion during the heavy monsoon, which is prevalent in this area around 3 to 4 months.
The client was looking out for a solution which would be stabilizing the slope with green fascia sustaining the natural beauty of the area. Therefore the need of a perfect landscaping was aimed right from the planning stage. Client had also insisted for a cost-effective and speedy construction.
The height to be protected was 6m, profiled in a slope of almost 45-50 degree, Reinforced soil wall with facia as, planter block was suggested. Which would further be reinforced with TechGrid Geogrid. The whole height was divided in to 3 sections, as shown in figure 3. The units were placed in 45degrees to the upper block. Nonwoven geotextile was placed below the planter block as a separator and filter media and then the block was filled with vegetative soil. Besides which aggregates was laid for drainage purpose, making the slope more and more stable. TECHGRID in this application is viewed as an extremely efficient and cost saving method fulfilling the requirement of client. The strength of the reinforcement was varying as per the design requirements. The most interesting part of this project was that almost all the existing trees were protected from cutting.
Residents were extremely happy with the aesthetics of the structure. This project has come out very well and has also withstood rains, which was one of the client requirements. However the structure is functioning very well as per the expectations.
